TOBAGO is home to the oldest rainforest in the Western Hemisphere, a nature reserve covering some 10,000 acres of natural untouched vegetation. This reserve has been protected since 1776 and has won several eco-awards in recent times, including the World Travel Awards - Best Eco Destination in the World - for four consecutive years from 2003.

The island possesses one of the richest bio diversity ratio with 210 species of bird, 124 species of butterfly, 24 types of snakes,17 species of bat, 16 species of lizard along with many species of frog and varying types of mammal, all co-existing on land space of only 116 square miles.

The waters surrounding Tobago abound with many reefs and are noted for some of the most spectacular diving in the Caribbean. Some 41 dive sites, spread around the island, affords divers a varied experience beneath the seas. The islands nutrient rich waters are home to nearly 300 species of hard coral , a wide variety of sponges, numerous tropical fishes and larger creatures including the manta rays sea turtles sharks and dolphins. The protected leather back turtles make their way onto Tobago beaches to lay their eggs offering a spectacular sight during the turtle-nesting season.

The island hosts two International game fishing tournaments during the year along with what has come to be known as the friendliest sailing regatta in the Caribbean.
