
Tobago is the smaller of the two islands that make up the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. It is located in the southern Caribbean Sea, north-east of Trinidad and south east of Grenada and lies outside the hurricane belt.
Tobago has a land area of 300 km² (116 square miles long), and is approximately 42 km (26Miles) long and 10 kilometers (6 miles) wide. It is located at latitude 11º 9’N, longitude 60º 40’W, slightly north of Trinidad. Tobago is about 22 miles away from Trinidad’s northern tip.The population is 55,000 (2000 census).
The capital is Scarborough, with a population of about 17,000. The population of Tobago is primarily of African descent, although with a growing proportion of Trinidadians of East Indian and Europeans (Germans and Scandinavians).
Tobago is primarily hilly and of volcanic origin. The southwest of the island is flat and consists largely of coralline limestone. The Main Ridge runs through the centre of the island for about two-thirds of its length. Much of this ridge is clothed in forest. The highest point is 550 meter (1804ft) Pigeon Peak.

The climate is tropical with average temperature of 25ºC/35ºCThere are two seasons, a wet season between June and December and a dry season between January and May.
